HUMAN SKILL  DEVELOPMENT

A well trained work force is an asset to any composites industry. Several study materials have been prepared and man-power training programmes have been evolved for imparting knowledge and skills to the managers, engineers and workers engaged in the composites industry. The executive secretary can be contacted for availing the study materials and for undergoing the training programmes.

Training on Data management and knowledge processing    in Composites using CD BANK software

Composites technology had a rapid growth and a wealth of knowledge, data and information are available in the literature, industrial world and in websites. There is a need to quickly access such information for improving the efficiency of the manufacture, R & D, design, other technical activities and marketing.

This training programme of FRP Institute is to familiarise its members on how to access such data using a software CD BANK (Composites Data Bank). CD BANK was devised by Dr. N. G. Nair and prepared by COMPTEC, IIT Madras with financial assistance from TIFAC, DST, New Delhi. FRP Institute is authorised to train the users of this CD BANK

CD BANK can store and retrieve eight categories of data as given below. The required data can be accessed by a search procedure.

1. Composites Literature Data. Contains information on books, conference proceedings, Thesis, R&D reports, papers published in journals, patents, standards.

2. Composites sourcing data provides address of personalities (experts in polymers and composites, administrators, industrialists) organisations (Govt. agencies, R&D institutions, Testing Laboratories, consultants, Trade agencies) and Industries (Rawmaterial suppliers, Composite fabricators and user industries).

3. Composite Materials Data include details of materials systems used for making composites as well as the details of composites and their constituents.

4. Composite Product Data provide brief information on composite product developed and marketed all over the world.

5. Composites Equipment/ Tools/ Machinery Data. The machinery and tools used for the fabrication of the composites and their testing and charectarisation are presented in this Data Bank with commercial information.

6. Composites Fabrication Data. More than 50 manufacturing processes and the post processing methods are presented as a ready reference for fabricators.

7. Composites Testing, Characterisation and Quality assurance data  It contains the test procedure, standards and equipment needed for testing of composites, their raw materials and products.

8. Commercial and General Data This  section of data storage facility is provided for storing the information and data specific to the user and his organisation.

Training of supervisors / skilled workers

The FRP industry needs skilled labourers trained not only in hand-lay up, but also in processes like RTM, Compression moulding, Filament winding and pultrusion. FRP Institute intends to periodically organise short certificate course programmes for training workers and distant education programmes for training supervisors.
